On Saturday I went to Dublin for the day with my Daisy for Yvonne Powers book launch 📕
It was just us at the airport, we were meeting the others Lindsay Murphy Nerissa Heald in Ireland cos we were all flying from different airports ✈️
Daisy did some duty free shopping with her Christmas money 💵 , she bought ANOTHER bloody Sol De Janeiro spray, but got a HEOUGE one, and a Monterax top (which all made her pee glitter) and we had a proper sweaty Burger King burger for brecky 🤤 🛍️ 🍔
As we were stood at the bottom of the steps waiting to get on plane ✈️ there was an elderly lady, she must have easily been in her late 80’s, sat in a wheelchair with a special assistance steward next to her.
He was only a young lad, must have been in his early 20’s and he had hold of the ladies small suitcase in one hand and her large handbag in the other 🧳 👜 I could see him thinking “How TF am I gonna do this!”
She stood up to get on the plane, and if a gust of wind had blown she’d have took off with it bless her. 🌬️ 👵🏽 She had a little fur coat on and Christmas earings, and painted leather heels. SHE WAS SOOOO CUTE!
“Would you like me to help you up the steps my lovely?” I said, offering the lady my arm.
“Yes please” she said in her thick Irish accent, and I managed to link her arm before she blew away.
The lad looked relieved 😮💨 “That’s really, REALLY kind of you, thank you.” he said to me.
“Its my pleasure,” I said, “and I think the world deffo needs more kindness right now” I added.
“Oh Yes! I agree!” Said the lady.
“Do you know what was really kind?” she added…. “They forgot me today, they left me in Starbucks, but then they realised, and came back for me…..that was kind wasn’t it!” 🥰
I looked at the lad and he looked back at me as if to say “SHIT! BUSTED!” 😳
“Id have been able to watch my plane take off from the window wouldn’t I….” she said, and did a little wave 👋🏻 ✈️
I PISSED MYSELF LAUGHING! 😆😂🤣
She was hilarious 🤣
The lad said thank you again as I helped her onto the plane, and I went and sat down with Daisy 💺
We went to the book launch and it was FAB 📕
On the way back home a few hours later as we went through security we suddenly realised we didn’t have the receipt for Daisy’s Sol spray and it was over the 100ml. 🤦🏼♀️
The security man wasn’t going to let us take it through, 😟 but I explained she’d bought it with her Xmas money etc, and eventually after me practically pleading, he said “Well you can speak to the manager and see what they say if you want?”
So I did.
I told her I ABSOLUTELY understood the rules, and explained what had happened again.
She looked at me, looked at my duty free bag and looked through the scanner at Daisy’s little face staring back at her on the other side 🥺
“Let me take it” she said, and took it round the back way. She scanned it separately and swabbed the bags.
I crossed my fingers 🤞🏻
And waited…….
Then, she returned with the bag AND the sol de janeiro spray🙏🏻😍🎉
“OMG THANK YOU SOOOOOOOO MUCH!” I said, as I did the biggest sigh of relief ever and almost exploded with gratitude at the same time 😚 💥✨
I was sat on the plane on the way back and I was thinking about how kind the lady in the airport was to do that for us 🥹🙏🏻
And then I wondered if it was a bit of kindness karma, cos I’d helped the lady on the plane earlier in the day? 👵🏽 ✈️
Then I thought about how GOOD it felt BEING kind and helping her, not to get anything back in return, but just cos I could ☺️💗
And my little heart felt all warm and fuzzy, my mouth crept into a little smile at the edges and my body naturally took a big breath in so that I could breathe this feeling into ALL parts of me💞
And in that moment everything felt so beautiful.
Kindness costs NOTHING.
But the giving and receiving of it FEEEEEEELS fucking amazing 🥲
And there IS so much shit going on in the world right now, the world DEFFO needs MORE kindness.
Please remember that we never know what people are really going through either, especially at this time of year 🎄, so sometimes even when they’re behaving like massive dicks….. just take a minute…. before you respond.
Cos it could be they just need someone to be a bit kinder to them.
